OMRA's New Venue Proves a Hit with the Racers

OMRA kicked off the 2012 season with a new venue and what a hit it proved to be with the OMRA racers. The Reading GP circuit offered all that racers could want and much more.  Over 50 boats were booked in and the D and E Classes both warranted two heats apiece and some superb racing action ensued. What was noticeable in all the classes was the consistency with which the top runners managed to put in the laps.

The day opened to fantastic weather and Brian Sexton and his wife put on a welcome spread of butties and burgers to keep the racers  going throughout the day.  Due to the size of the field and the fact that there were loads of heats to get through, the race duration was 15 minutes per heat. This gave the day a sprint race feel and the OODs [BigTeeRacing Team] kept the pace up to make sure that the finish time was within the bounds of sensibility.

The action came thick and fast in the bigger boats' heats and its was great to see some new names cutting their teeth at this very accessible circuit.

All in all, the OMRA racers had a cracking start to the season with a busy day, loads of boats, great results and a smashing venue.  OMRA looks forward to coming back to Burghfield and extends welcome thanks to Brian Sexton and his wife, BTR and the team for managing the event and many, many thanks go to the Ski Club for hosting the event and making OMRA feel very welcome.
